The art and science of dermatology come together when restoring the skin to a more youthful appearance. A range of therapies and devices is available and depending on the condition being treated and the individual’s skin type, a combination of modalities may be recommended.
Broken capillaries, facial redness and flushing may be due to rosacea or sun damage. Laser therapy offers a safe and effective solution. Designed with dual wavelength capability, the Candela excel V+ laser provides the latest and most advanced technology for the treatment of vascular lesions.
There are various causes of pigmentation. Some brown marks, such as age spots, may be treatable with chemical peels, cryotherapy or laser. Other causes of skin darkening include melasma, which may require bleaching creams or prescribed medications.
A lifetime enjoying the sun’s rays can lead to freckles, fine lines and a loss of skin tone and texture. Photorejuvenation can be achieved through serums, peels, LED photodynamic therapy or with the use of Laser Genesis technology.
No wrinkles are quite the same, and an effective solution will be tailored to your need. The principles behind restoring skin firmness and smoothness include stimulating collagen with the use of nonsurgical devices, relaxing underlying muscles or placing fillers into the dermal layer of the skin.
Scars due to acne or surgery may require a combination of treatments, including needling, trichloracetic acid, radiofrequency therapy, LED light and subcision. Scars that are raised or thickened, including keloids, may need treatment with cortisone injections.
Moles, which include beauty spots, can sometimes be unsightly. They vary in appearance. The first step is to check with a doctor that it is benign (harmless). Removal of moles for cosmetic reasons may involve surgery, and so a consultation with a doctor is required.
There are many harmless skin bumps including seborrhoeic keratoses, skin tags, cysts and fibrous papules. Depending on the diagnosis, the site and your skin type, cryotherapy, diathermy or surgery may be the best option.
So-called Campbell de Morgan spots or cherry angiomas are common. Although new spots cannot be prevented, treatment of unsightly angiomas can be achieved with the use of diathermy or laser therapy.
The size of the dilated vein will determine the preferred treatment. The Cutera excel V+ laser can be helpful to clear some leg veins, however in other cases it may be necessary to obtain the opinion of a vascular surgeon.
Your treatment plan will depend on the condition being treated and your skin type, and may require a combination of modalities to achieve the best outcome.
The excel® V+ is a versatile and high performance laser designed with the input from Dermatologists to treat skin redness and pigmentation. Its use of two key wavelengths (532nm and 1064nm) enables blood vessels in all layers of the skin to be targeted.
Laser Genesis® delivers micropulses of laser light that stimulate collagen production to improve fine lines and wrinkles. It offers a gentle painless treatment with no downtime.
The Venus Viva® uses radiofrequency technology to deliver heat energy to the skin’s dermis layer. This non-needling device is more effective than microneedling due to its deeper penetration. By remodelling collagen it improves the texture of the skin and is therefore effective in treating acne scars, enlarged pores and wrinkles. Compared with resurfacing laser, the procedure is much less painful and downtime is minimal. Also the Venus Viva® can be used for both light and dark skin types.
The SmartLux® LED is a high intensity light device that can be operated with the use of four wavelengths: 420nm (blue), 590nm (yellow), 635nm (red) and 830nm (infrared). Through the stimulation of cell production and blood circulation, the SmartLux® LED can lead to skin rejuvenation and accelerated wound healing. The blue light can be used to treat active acne.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a highly effective treatment for solar keratoses (scaly sunspots) and some forms of non-melanoma skin cancer. A special photosensitizing cream is applied to the sun-damaged area, followed by exposure to red light from the SmartLux® LED. This triggers a photo chemical reaction within the abnormal skin cells, causing the keratoses and skin cancers to peel off, leaving the normal skin unaffected.
Some treatments for the reduction of skin wrinkles can only be provided by trained healthcare practitioners following a consultation and assessment. Our registered nurses are appropriately trained to provide guidance on the use of prescription-only injectable medicines and if such therapy is considered the right option, then treatment can be undertaken on an informed basis.
Chemical peels are used for cosmetic purposes to remove damaged skin cells and promote regeneration of the surface layer. They can be used to reduce fine lines and to enhance both skin tone and texture, providing an overall anti-aging benefit. Acne and some forms of pigmentation may also improve with peels. We provide a range of chemical peel options, and treatment sessions are performed by one of our experienced dermal clinicians or nurses.
